Nitrous Oxide or “laughing gas” sedation provides a very effective and easy way for children to cope with dental treatment. Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen is a blend of two gases, Oxygen and Nitrous Oxide. When inhaled it has a calming and anxiety reducing effect and pain-relieving qualities, most children do not laugh during this sedation. After the conclusion of the appointment, the gas is eliminated from the body following 100% oxygen administration, normal breathing also eliminates Nitrous Oxide from the body. The gas is non-addictive, mild, easily taken and quickly eliminated from the body. During treatment your child will remain conscious and keep all their natural reflexes.
